Family

The UK Council for International Student Affairs have an information sheet called 'Your family's immigration' which gives information on the immigration requirements for students' family members (spouse or civil partner; children) and an explanation of services available to them whilst in the UK, for example school education for children and medical services.

You can get evidence of your current student status from one of the InfoZones. This can be used as proof of your student status and may help your dependant’s application.

Family Members of Tier 4 Migrants and Working Conditions

The Immigration Rules provide that the family members (dependants)of Tier 4 migrants WILL be given permission to work if the Tier 4 Migrant has been given leave for 12 months or more. If a Tier 4 migrant has been given leave for less than 12 months, the family member will be prohibited from working.

This is also the case if a Tier 4 migrant applies to extend his/her immigration permission or applies for fresh entry clearance for a period which is less than 12 months (eg to complete his/her studies). Even if the family member was allowed to work previously, he/she will then receive a work prohibition.

It is advised that family members always check the conditions they receive.
