Placement Providers - your views sought on placement delivery
In 2011, the Operational Group of the Scottish Cluster for Dietetic Placements met with Lead Practice Educators in Perth. At that meeting, a number of aspects were raised by Practice Educators and briefly discussed, including the need for a review of dietetic placement learning outcomes and assessment tools within Scotland. Since the BDA were going through the process of updating the Curriculum, it was agreed that a suitable time for such a review would be after the launch of the new curriculum. We are therefore now at the appropriate time to explore any issues related to dietetic placements.
Below is a link to a ‘Stop, Start, Continue’ survey that is being undertaken to review and scope opinions across the whole of the dietetic profession in Scotland regarding Dietetic placements. We are looking for all Dietitians to participate in this exercise, since all are likely to have some experience or involvement in dietetic placements (either as having been a student on a placement in recent years, or in contributing to the facilitation of learning of students). Apologies to those who receive an invitation to this survey from other routes, however we want to ensure that everyone gets an opportunity to ‘have their say’.
We are looking for individual responses so that no views or suggestions are missed. However, if some groups prefer to respond collectively then there is an opportunity at the end of the survey to indicate if it is a group response.
Please access the survey via the link below.
Thank you for your participation. The deadline for completion is 31st December 2013.
The following pages have been designed with potential and current dietetic placement providers in mind; we hope you find them useful. If you have suggestions or comments of other placement information that you would like to see on the SCDP website, please let us know by filling in the online feedback form.

Know Can Do Models for B & C Placement
The "Know Can Do Models" for B and C Placement have been taken from the Peer Assisted Learning Pack. These are a useful indicator for each week of placement to determine the Student's "Know Can Do" for each of the learning outcomes.
Guidance on Attendance and Absence during Dietetic Practice Placements
In March 2011, the Universities produced Guidance on "Attendance and Absence during Dietetic Practice Placements A, B & C". This has been circulated to all students going out on placement. Please ensure that staff familiarise themselves with this document.
Peer Assisted Learning
The "Scottish Peer Assisted Learning Implementation - Resource Pack" was launch at the Scottish Cluster Student Training Forum in September 2010. You will find the pack under the link "PAL & Placement Resources"
We're still trying to compile overviews of each of the dietetic placements provided in Scotland. If you haven't already done so, please forward your 'Placement Profile' to firstname.lastname@example.org to be uploaded on to this website.
