Aims of Module
To enable students to evaluate key issues in contemporary built asset procurement practice, contractual arrangements and dispute resolution mechanisms.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Analyse strategic issues in contemporary built asset procurement.
2 Evaluate contractual issues in contemporary built asset procurement.
3 Appraise options and procedures for dispute resolution in standard forms of construction contracts.

Indicative Module Content
This module promotes the ability to analyse a wide range of issues relating to various aspects of built asset procurement. Procurement practice issues may concern arrangements such as traditional, design and build, management, partnering, the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) and the various forms of Public Private Partnerships (PPPs). Contractual issues may concern arrangements such as standard form contracts, partnering arrangements, joint ventures, long term arrangements. Dispute resolution issues may concern mechanisms such as litigation, arbitration, adjudication and other alternative dispute resolution methods.

Module Delivery
Emphasis is placed on an integrated approach to communication and learning, with student involvement fostered through discussion and group working. On-campus mode will include formal input, discussion groups and compulsory activities. These activities will be a combination of individual activities and group presentations. Blended Learning mode will involve online materials, online support and compulsory activities. Students will be encouraged to participate in discussion forums.
