Aims of Module
To allow the student to develop understanding of the importance of correct specification of materials and finishes to provide appropriate internal environments.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Examine a thorough body of selected gathered information appropriate to a chosen subject within the course discipline.
2 Analyse the functional considerations behind the use of specific materials.
3 Evaluate and specify the components, materials and construction methods required in a given context.

Indicative Module Content
This module will examine the factors that designers must consider when creating various internal environments. Students will examine the functional, performance, aesthetic and statutory requirements of internal finishes. Students will be able to apply this knowledge to real life or simulated scenarios and will, through the utilisation of tutorials, be required to specify appropriate finishes. Content will include: partitions, ceilings, floor screeds & finishes, wall finishes, ironmongery, historic finishes, deterioration and repair, specifications and materials.

This module is delivered by an approach involving student research, online activities, targeted lectures, group work and application workshops.
