Aims of Module
To provide the student with the necessary skills and knowledge to competently perform contractors estimating in a built environment context.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Assess and analyse methods in estimating and tendering process from initial enquiry to tender submission.
2 Assess, evaluate and apply the techniques used by contractors in the estimating process to determine the cost implications of construction operations.

Indicative Module Content
To provide the student with a working knowledge of the methods and techniques adopted in the construction industry for financial forecasting and control. The objectives are to give the student an insight into the techniques used by contractors for estimating and financial control by encouraging the discovery of links in the data chain by the use of spreadsheet based exercises.

Description: Groupwork in the form of presentation exploring different methods of estimating and analysing the tendering process.

Description: An individual piece of coursework incorporating a priced BOQ and/or report showing how the student has applied estimating techniques.

MODULE PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTOR
Explanatory Text
The overall module grade is based on 30% weighting of Component 1 (Coursework X axis) and 70% weighting of Component 2 (Coursework Y axis). An overall minimum grade D is required to pass the module. Non-submission will result in an NS grade.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
This is the second of three value and cost studies modules which progressively introduce students to the subject. This second module focuses upon the cost of building works. Where appropriate, team working will be encouraged.
