Aims of Module
To understand and conceptualise the concepts of Scots law and international law and their relevance to the construction industry

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Correctly apply knowledge and understanding of the basics of Scots contract law and reparation law in the context of the built environment
2 Distinguish between the characteristics and uses of standard forms of contract
3 Explore the context of international construction law for the built environment

Indicative Module Content
The Scottish legal system, contract law, delictual liability, professional liability & building defects liability, contract forms, dispute resolution, sustainable construction legislation

Module Delivery
This is predominantly a lecture based module supplemented with tutorials and or workshops. A substantial part of the module is devoted to student centred learning in the form of directed reading of legal journals, core texts and resource material. Tutorials/ workshops will include collaborative teamworking.
