Aims of Module
The module will provide an introduction to the principles of construction project management and discuss techniques and processes necessary to manage a project to cost, time, quality, safety and environmental requirements.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Understand the management of the construction process as they relate to a project from inception to recycling.
2 Appraise different planning and monitoring techniques for managing project time and cost
3 Understand the role of the construction manager in leading the construction team and successfully managing client expectations.

Indicative Module Content
The module is designed to provide a realisation of the breadth of management skills required to be brought together to successfully manage a project.

Module Delivery
This is a lecture based module supplemented with workshops. A substantial part of the module is devoted to student centred learning in the form of directed reading of management and trade journals, core texts and resource material.

ASSESSMENT PLAN

Component 1
Type: Coursework Weighting: 60% Outcomes Assessed: 1, 2, 3
Description: This coursework comprises a fully referenced 2000 word research article investigating the sources of construction cost overruns and the role of project management.
Component 2
Type: Coursework Weighting: 40% Outcomes Assessed: 1, 2, 3
Description: A 15 minutes presentation on the project planning and control using a relevant case study.

Explanatory Text
In order to pass the module students must achieve 35% or greater in each component and 40% or greater overall.
