Aims of Module
The module will provide an introduction to the principles of construction project management and discuss techniques and processes necessary to manage a project to cost, time, quality, safety and environmental requirements.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Recognise the systematic management of the construction processes as they relate to a project from inception to completion, applying industry standards processes, methods, techniques and tools to procure and execute projects.
2 Describe the fundamental knowledge and principles of the commercial, economic and global context in which projects are undertaken.
3 Identify the role of the construction manager in leading the construction project team including defining the roles and responsibilities and successfully managing client expectations.
4 Identify the nature of risks associated with initiating and implementing a construction project and the methods and techniques used to measure and manage risk.
5 Recognise the core contents of the module and examine their application within the work place.

Indicative Module Content
Construction processes and project stages, including demolition and recycling. Value management and value engineering, procurement and commercial considerations. Construction team, role, responsibilities and stakeholder management, considerte construction, social value, risk identification and risk management.

Module Delivery
The module is delivered in Blended Learning mode using structured online learning materials/activities and directed study, facilitated by regular online tutor support. Workplace Mentor support and work-based learning activities will allow students to contextualise this learning to their own workplace. Face-to-face engagement occurs through annual induction sessions, employer work-site visits, and modular on-campus workshops.
