Aims of Module | |||

To provide the students with the contextual background to the construction industry and its allied professions, and its relationship to practices and processes within the built environment. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Identify how construction design solutions vary for different types of buildings. |
2 | Identify the impact of different design strategies on cost and programme. |
3 | Classify the stages of design and construction from inception to completion. |
4 | Identify factors that may affect project implementation within the construction industry. |
5 | Recognise the core contents of the module and relate to their application within the work place. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
Trends and legal framework, role within the economy, project stages, collaborative working, risks, health and safety, digital agenda, ethical practices, environmental impact, stakeholders, design approaches and processes. |
Module Delivery |
---|
The module is delivered in Blended Learning mode using structured online learning materials/activities and directed study, facilitated by regular online tutor support. Workplace Mentor support and work-based learning activities will allow students to contextualise this learning to their own workplace. Face-to-face engagement occurs through annual induction sessions, employer work-site visits, and modular on-campus workshops. |
