Aims of Module
The rationale of this module is to allow the student to critically understand the various processes and mechanisms that influence and condition health in the work environment.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Analyse critically theories and perspectives of health.
2 Analyse and critically evaluate the deeper causes of ill-health in the work environment
3 Innovate solutions to health challenges posed by and/or in the energy sector.

Indicative Module Content
Models of health; Mental health; Gender, class and ethnic influences on health; Ageing and the workplace; Conceptualising work; The modern workplace; Hierarchy, control, autonomy in the workplace; Occupational health; Health and safety; Emotions and stress; Economic democracy and health;

Module Delivery
A combination of lectures, seminars, presentations, directed online learning, directed reading, preparatory work and private study, as appropriate to the student's chosen mode of attendance.
