To provide critical knowledge and understanding of the processes of attachment and loss and change. To develop an advanced understanding of how these impact on individuals and groups in a variety of situations. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Appraise critical knowledge and understanding of the relationship between attachment, change and loss and to apply this to the analysis of individual and group responses to significant change. |
2 | Critically appraise and apply knowledge of group, institutional, and organisational process and dynamics to practice in group contexts. |
3 | Appraise knowledge of a range of approaches employed in working with groups in different contexts. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
The processes of change in individual, familial and organisational settings. Attachment, Object Relations, Resilience. Death, dying and bereavement. The dynamics of the life-space. Institutional process and the maintenance of identity. Methods and skills for group practice. The processes and techniques used to evaluate the effectiveness of practice in group settings. The content also reflects, where appropriate, the knowledge, skills and professional confidence and competence requirements of the Key Capabilities in Child Care and Protection (Scottish Executive 2006). |
