Aims of Module
To develop independence in the application of the audit and evaluation of the audit process and to integrate findings into the development of a research proposal.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically evaluate the findings from an audit or service evaluation undertaken in clinical practice to inform a research question.
2 Demonstrate critical awareness of relevant research literature to develop and support a well defined research question.
3 Select and apply appropriate research methods.
4 Evaluate the ethical implications of conducting a research study.
5 Discuss the design, planning and execution of the project to ensure effective and successful completion.

Indicative Module Content
Audit, service evaluation, critical discrimination between and reasoned choice of different research methodologies for different purposes, data analysis and evaluation, ethical and research governance permissions, ethical issues in research.

Description: Fully developed research proposal and ethics application (3000 words) and an oral defence of the proposed study.

MODULE PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTOR
Explanatory Text
The student will submit a fully developed 3000 word research proposal and undertake an oral defence of the proposed study. Both elements must meet the required standard to gain an overall pass in the component.
