Aims of Module
To increase awareness of the importance of primary and secondary research in clinical practice. To facilitate the students' development of critical analysis of a range of research methods and the systematic critical review of literature.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Independently execute a detailed systematic review of literature in the field of child development and child mental health.
2 Critically evaluate relevant literature in the field of child development and child mental health.
3 Apply critical understanding of research methodologies to the analysis of literature in the field of child development and child mental health.
4 Synthesise evidence based arguments to inform professional practice.
5 Critically evaluate secondary data relevant to professional practice.

Indicative Module Content
Systematic review of literature, synthesis and integration of critical analysis of literature, critical discrimination between and reasoned choice of different research methodologies for different purposes, data analysis.
