Aims of Module | |||
---|---|---|---|
To enable the investigation of the emotional and psychological development of the human individual within the context of families, groups and organisations. Particular attention will be paid to unconscious dynamics and processes. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Critically appraise a range of ideas that conceptualise the unconscious forces at work in families. |
2 | Analyse the impact of conscious and unconscious dynamics within groups and organisations on the individual. |
3 | Understand and critically evaluate the links between psychodynamic theory and systems thinking. |
4 | Critically evaluate their own experience in groups and the implications that experience will have on clinical practice. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
Students study a range of ideas about the individual in context, exploring the work of Social Scientists in relation to the interpersonal and relational world of the person. The family is examined through attachment theory and into how families work as open/closed systems. Groups are explored as a means of examining the individual within the organisation and identifying interpersonal dynamics and recurring patterns. |
