Aims of Module
To enable the student to demonstrate the ability to apply a critical knowledge and understanding of cognitive methods and approaches to human activity. To evaluate practical applications of cognitive research.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically understand the research methods, ethical issues, theory, and empirical findings for key areas in Cognitive Psychology.
2 Critically evaluate the practical application of cognitive research and theory.
3 Conduct investigative research in one of the core areas of Cognitive Psychology.

Indicative Module Content
What is cognitive psychology? Attention and consciousness. Perception. Language. Language disorders. Memory. Impairments of memory. Problem solving. Reasoning and decision making. Ethical Issues in Cognitive Psychology.

MODULE PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTOR
Explanatory Text
The assessment will take the form of two pieces of course work. Component 1 (70%) will take the form of a Research Project and Component 2(30%) will take the form of continuous assessment. In order to pass the module BOTH components must be passed at Grade D or above.
