Aims of Module
To provide the student with a critical understanding of the biological bases of behaviour and the reciprocal relationship between the brain and behaviour.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Understand the neural mechanisms of behaviour and critically evaluate the influence of evolution, and the interplay between the environment and genetics.
2 Critically evaluate key research in biological psychology.
3 Critically examine how research in biological psychology can contribute to the understanding of cognitive function, health and illness.

Indicative Module Content
The biological foundations of human behaviour. Evolution. The basic structures of the brain and their underlying functions . The link between neuropathology and cognitive/behavioural functions. Emotions. Learning and memory . Eating behaviours. Drug-related behaviour. Cognition. Sexual behaviour. Behavioural disorders. Learning difficulties.
