Aims of Module | |||
---|---|---|---|
1.To provide candidates with the knowledge, skills and practice experience to exercise the civil powers and duties of the MHO within the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000 and other related legislation taking full account of the relevant policy and procedural contexts. 2.To enable candidates to critically analyse and evaluate their learning and practice with individuals, families, carers and significant others when undertaking the role of MHO in relation to the support and protection of adults with incapacity. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Demonstrate critical understanding of the nature of mental capacity and incapacity in the context of multi-disciplinary assessment, care and treatment, in relation to individuals, families and carers. |
2 | Demonstrate critical understanding of applied relevant legislation, guidance, policy and procedure in relation to mental disorder, as it affects issues of capacity and incapacity and the impact that this has on individuals, families and carers.This will include developing an understanding of the interplay of differing Acts. |
3 | Critically reflect upon practice in the complex role of MHO in respect of ethical dilemmas, inter-professional tensions and issues in relation to leadership and use of authority, autonomy and accountability. |
4 | Demonstrate and evaluate competence and direct practice skills as required by the standards and practice competences to achieve the MHO award as prescribed by the SSSC. |

This Module is assessed by three components: an essay, law assessment and assessment of practice. The essay's contribution to the overall module grade is Major and the law assessment's contribution to the overall grade is Minor. To pass this module overall, students must obtain a minimum grade of D for BOTH essay components and a Pass for the assessment of practice. | |
