Aims of Module

To enable the student to critically analyse the social policies and practices of interprofessional and inter-agency working.

Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Critically discuss and evaluate interprofessional and inter-agency practice within the context of current health and social care policy.
2. Compare critically the legal, ethical and philosophical frameworks adopted by range of disciplines and analyse their implications for practice.
3. Analyse the processes which impact on the functioning of multi-professional teams and inter-agency working.

Indicative Module Content

The historical and contemporary development of national and local health and social care policies. The nature of professionalism and the impact on professions of legislation and organisational change. a comparison of different ehtical frameworks and consideration of their implications for practice.Different aproaches to assessment and record keeping - implications for interprofessional teams. varying approaches to risk assessment and risk management. Support and supervision within the professions and their implications for multi-professional teams. Consideration of roles, boundaries, skills overlap and skills mix. Authority and leadership within multi-disciplinary teams. An exploration of collaborative and competitive inter-agency working. Inter-agency practice with regard to the control and rationing of resources. An analysis of the links between inter-agency practice and service delivery co-ordination. Strategies for evaluating the effectiveness of inter-professional and inter-agency working.

This module will be delivered by a 2 day introductory workshop;open learning materials with online support(discussion groups and forum) and tutorials;2 day summative seminar based sessions at conclusion
