Drawing from sociology and social policy, the module introduces and develops the conceptual frameworks and applied knowledge necessary for a critical understanding of the social, political and institutional contexts of contemporary social work practice. |

1 | Critically appraise the social processes and structures that impact upon the lived experience and opportunities of individuals and groups in relation to social work practice |
2 | Critically analyse social policy in relation to contemporary social issues and apply to social work practice. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
Parental responsibilities and rights. Children's Hearing System. Sociological perspectives. Identity, practice and everyday life. Class, race and gender inequality. Social institutions and power. Key concepts in social policy. Models of welfare provision. Ideological underpinning of social policy. Relationship between social policy and social work practice. |
