Aims of Module | |||
---|---|---|---|
The aim of this module is to provide students with a grounding in evolutionary psychology to supplement their understanding of social constructivism gained elsewhere. Key themes will include the impact of Darwinian natural selection on aspects behaviour including cooperation, conflict, partner choice and culture. |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Show in-depth understanding of evolutionary theories and their application in explaining psychological processes. |
2 | Evaluate the methods and theoretical framework employed in evolutionary psychology. |
3 | Demonstrate knowledge of the history of evolutionary psychology and its development. |
4 | Critically analyse research papers and synthesize information to add an extra layer of analysis to findings from cognitive and biological psychology. |

A denial of human nature? The historical origin of evolutionary psychology. Methodology in evolutionary psychology. Genotypes and phenotypes. Mate selection. Cooperation and conflict. Intersexual/intergenerational conflict. Hormones and behaviour. Evolutionary psychology and cognitive functions. Culture. |
