Aims of Module | |||
---|---|---|---|
To provide the student with knowledge and understanding of the Criminal Justice System and the roles and responsibilities of its stakeholders. To critically analyse and evaluate theories relating to crime, sentencing, risk, rehabilitation, restriction, reparation and reintegration and Desistance. |

1 | Critically assess the structures and functions of stakeholders within the Criminal Justice System. |
2 | Review the contemporary knowledge relevant to crime prevention, community safety and risk management. |
3 | Evaluate contemporary themes relevant to criminology and desistance. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
To develop an appreciation of issues relating to inequalities and structural oppression in the Justice System. Relevant reference to Legislation and Policy. Exploration of specific criminal activities such as White Collar Crime, Sex Offending, Organised Crime, Cybercrime, Women Offenders. Discussion of transnational crime prevention strategies, social justice and community safety initiatives drawing on theoretical perspectives. Critical understanding of risk and risk management strategies. |

This is a mainly lecture based module with supporting seminars/workshops and student-centred learning. The on-campus activities will be supplemented and supported with online activities where appropriate. |
