Aims of Module
To enable students to consolidate teaching from Semester 1 in preparation for first assessed practice. To provide opportunities to practice a range of techniques [e.g. individual interviewing, assessment skills]. To interact with experienced practitioners, service users and carers in case discussion and analysis. To develop knowledge of anti-discriminatory/anti-oppressive practice. To develop an understanding of the contextual framework for intervention. To develop skills in reflective practice and writing.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Prepare for assessed practice in Group Care, Fieldwork or other setting.
2 Demonstrate an acceptable skills base to afford service users appropriate levels of service.
3 Draw on relevant theories and knowledge regarding anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practice to inform practice situations.

Indicative Module Content
Structured analysis of rolling case study including the contextual framework for practice. Simulated interviewing. Introduction to relevant agency procedures and practices. Introduction to social work services and resourses. Theory and practice issues in relation to discrimination and oppression. The content also reflects, where appropriate, the knowledge, skills and professional confidence and competence requirements of the Key Capabilities in Child Care and Protection (Scottish Executive 2006).
