Aims of Module | |||

To provide the student with an applied knowledge and understanding of social work as a key stakeholder within the Scottish Criminal Justice System. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Critically appraise policy, legislative and procedural frameworks underpinning social work practice with offenders. |
2 | Critically apply knowledge of criminology and desistance theory to a range of offender groups. |
3 | Critique assessment and intervention strategies designed to facilitate change for individuals who offend within the context of evidence-based practice. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
Legislation, policy and practice guidelines for work with offenders, sentencing philosophy, criminology and desistance theory, risk assessment and management, case management and offender supervision, inequalities in the justice system, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Pro-social modelling, principles of effective practice, Risk/Need/Responsivity, Strengths-based approaches, Sex Offenders, Women Offenders, Domestic Abuse. The module is delivered and underpinned by a commitment to core social work values of respect, individualisation, empowerment, anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive principles and upholds the values and ethical practice standards that reflect the requirements relating to engagement with public protection. |
