Aims of Module
To provide students with a critical understanding of different forms of behaviour associated with terrorism.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically discuss recent influential terrorist organisations and their attacks.
2 Analyse the role of local and global factors in the development of terrorist groups.
3 Critically apply social scientific concepts and theories to help explain the processes of terrorism.

Indicative Module Content
Origins and strategies. Theories and interpretations. Role of the media. Terrorism in the UK. Urban terrorism in the West. Religious terrorism . Global terrorism. Female terrorists. Suicide/martyrdom attacks. Counter-Terrorism and Security.

Module Delivery
This is a mainly lecture based module with supporting seminars/workshops and student-centred learning. The on-campus activities will be supplemented and supported with online activities where appropriate.
