Aims of Module

To enable the student to engage in a comparative evaluation of how welfare services for children and young people are delivered within a range of countries.

Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Engage in a critical comparative evaluation of relevant political and social policy contexts within a range of countries and understand their impact on the delivery of welfare services for children and young people.
2. Locate historical and current U.K. Group Care Practice with children and young people within the wider international context
3. Analyse the training and deployment of residential child care professionals within a range of countries.

Indicative Module Content

Relevant international, political, historical and social policy contexts. The organisational contexts and developing service delivery systems for welfare services for children and young people in a range of countries. Approaches to the training and deployment of relevant professionals within a range of countries. A study of how problems associated with disability and rehabilitation are dealt with in a range of countries.
