Aims of Module
To enable students to evaluate critically key ethical concepts, principles, values and their origins, and how these impact on decision making within professional social work practice.
Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

Demonstrate links between different codes defining ethical practice, legislation and the requirements of professional conduct.

Critically analyse knowledge of "traditional" social work values and recent changes in the evoluton of contemporary practice.

Reflect significant ethical issues that arise in social work practice making appropriate use of relevant ethical theory and concepts.

Indicative Module Content
Ethical theories, issues and dilemmas. Traditional and modern values in social work. Professional codes of practice and other sources of social work values. Ethical principles and their application in professional pratice. Ethical issues relating to respect, privacy and confidentiality, informed consent, self-determination and empowerment. Anti-oppressive/anti-discriminatory practice, empowerment and the promotion of social justice and the moral rights of service users. Risk Analysis
