Aims of Module
To enable the student, with reference to direct practice experiences, to reflect critically on the processes of risk assessment and risk management.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically analyse the process of risk assessment with reference to direct practice.
2 Critically reflect on how to balance the rights and responsibilities of individuals with the associated risks to them or the wider public.
3 Evaluate approaches to risk management with reference to direct practice.

Indicative Module Content
A period of direct practice which will allow the student the opportunity to reflect, apply, and integrate a range of values, theories and methods to social work practice. Where a student’s practice learning is undertaken in a child care setting they will draw from theory, practice and research of the subject matter and meet the expectations and knowledge requirement of Key Requirements of the Key Capabilities in Child Care and Protection (Scottish Executive, 2006). All Students on placements must address key requirement 1 of the key capabilities in child care and protection.
