Aims of Module
To provide the student with a critical awareness of core issues and topics in contemporary social psychology and to consider their application to real world experience using research-led teaching. To develop students’ research skills by working closely with academic members of staff in a research-oriented approach

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically evaluate a multi-perspective approach to social psychology and apply it across a range of areas.
2 Apply relevant psychological theory to core areas of social behaviour
3 Demonstrate investigative research in the area of Social Psychology

Indicative Module Content
A multi-perspective approach to Social Psychology including: self and others, relationships, attribution processes, attitudes, stereotypes, groups, social influence, and anti-social behaviour. Issues relating to diversity and equality are discussed with a focus on the social psychology of prejudice, discrimination, racism and sexism. Students will consider the mainstream media in relation to prejudice and discrimination, with a focus on racial stereotypes.

Module Delivery
This is a mainly lecture based module with supporting seminars/workshops and student-centred learning. The on-campus activities will be supplemented and supported with online activities where appropriate.
