Aims of Module
To provide an understanding of the interlocking factors which lead to gang culture - and in particular the use of firearms in that context.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Explain the concepts and principles underlying the forensic investigation of firearms offences.
2 Discuss the sociology of gang cultures and disorganised crime.
3 Discuss legal approaches to firearm and gang crime.
4 Discuss alternative non-criminal justice responses to gang-related crime.

Indicative Module Content
The module will cover: Mechanisms and design aspects, introduction to ballistics, scene of shooting incident, firearm discharge residues, forensic laboratory examination, proof marks, county lines, sociological theories of gangs, contemporary developments in gang culture, global comparisons, social inequalities, racism, policing, spatial organisation of gangs, public-health approaches to gang culture and gang-related crime, working with young people.

Module Delivery
This module is delivered through a combination of lab practicals, lectures and seminars. These will explore different perspectives on the core subject matter, using case studies and real life examples
