Aims of Module | |||
---|---|---|---|
To enable the student to understand and analyse a range of conceptual frameworks and methods of working with adults who use social care services: adults with disabilities, older adults and those with mental health problems. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Outline and discuss social policy and legislation related to social work in adult social care. |
2 | Outline and analyse a range of differing perspectives on ageing, disability and mental health that would inform the assessment of needs in adult social care. |
3 | Apply knowledge of social work interventions and practice to promote participation and rights of people using adult social care services, within the context of evidence-based practice. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
Legislation and policy relating to adult social care: integration of health and social care, interprofessional working, assessment, care management, participation of supported persons in services. Definitions of disability; end of life care; mental health and mental illness; long term and complex conditions . Social and psychological perspectives on the impact of disability and ageing; understanding conditions, developing skills and critical understanding of interventions and services for adults. The module is delivered and underpinned by a commitment to core social work values of respect, individualisation, empowerment, anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive principles and upholds the values and ethical practice standards that reflect the requirements relating to engagement with public protection. |
