Aims of Module
To provide knowledge and understanding of key issues and influences in the range of social work activity and interdisciplinary practice with children, young people and families.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Understand the contemporary context of childhood and the lived experience of children.
2 Understand the evolving role and responsibilities of the state in the care, support and protection of children.

Indicative Module Content
The context of childhood including child abuse and neglect. The role of of the state in the care, support and protection of children. Legislation and policy relevant to the care and protection of children. Services, processes and systems which provide care, support and protection for children and families. Assessment or need and risk and the factors which inform assessments. Working with children and young people who have or have had care and support experience.

Module Delivery
Full Time A combination of lectures, workshops and experiential activities underpinned by student centred learning. Supported by multimedia resources.
