Aims of Module

To utilise the placement opportunity to apply the theory and knowledge base to practice with children through purposeful activities. To engage in reflective and critical analysis of use of self, relationships and personal and professional growth over the practice experience.


Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Reflect on their use of self.
2. Purposefully apply theory and creative interventions in practice with children.
3. Evaluate the depth and quality of relationships developed with children throughout the duration of the placement.
4. Plan for further personal and professional growth.

Indicative Module Content

Purposeful activity. Theory, practice and reflection on use of self. Communication. Expectations and knowledge of the professional, personal and private domains of practice. Safe care. Law and social policy. A social pedagogic and relational understanding of working within the Life Space. Continuing professional development. Research. Evidence based practice. Inter-disciplinary practice.
