Aims of Module
To enable students to apply research techniques to project management and to analyse the relationship between research and social work practice.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Produce a literature review relevant to the research project topic.
2 Apply a knowledge of research methods to the design, analysis and writing of a research project.
3 Analyse the relationship between research and social work practice.

Indicative Module Content
Review of research methods. Application of research to social work practice. Evaluating practice. Applying statistics and data analysis - quantitative and qualitative. Advanced literature searching. Planning research. Reflects the knowledge, skills and professional confidence and competence requirements around engagement with public protection.

Module Delivery
The module is based on core lectures and supporting seminar and discussion work. It also requires students to undertake critical reading of relevant journals.
