Aims of Module
The aim of the module is to enable students to evaluate and appropriately apply to social work practice a range of models of counselling within a social work context.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Evaluate theoretical models underpinning counselling intervention within social work practice.
2 Evaluate and apply and range of counselling methods to appropriate areas of social work practice.
3 Evaluate the evidence base underpinning counselling methods.

Indicative Module Content
Models of counselling: person centred, cognitive/behavioural, psychodynamic and family therapy. Applications of counselling models to social work practice. Evaluation of research evidence in social work. Reflects the knowledge, skills and professional confidence and competence requirements around engagement with public protection.

A combination of lectures as well as discussion and skills based seminars.
