Aims of Module
To enable the student to demonstrate a capacity for ethical and effective social work through direct work with services users.
Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

Engage in purposeful and effective relationships with service users, colleagues, practitioners from other disciplines and others, in working in partnership to address the needs of service users.

Assess human situations, taking critical account of a number of factors including the views of those involved; differing perspectives, cultural, racial ethnic and other identities; theoretical concepts; research evidence; legislation and organisational policies and procedures.

Apply social work methods to achieve change, maintain stability, promote in independence and improve life opportunities in the context of ethical practice.

4. |
Take account of the impact of inequality, discrimination and social exclusion in work with people in a range of contexts and problem situations.

Demonstrate competence in direct practice skills as required by the Scottish Social Services Council in a manner appropriate to the level.

| Indicative Module Content
Supervised social work practice learning will allow the student the opportunity to reflect, apply and integrate a range of values, theories and methods to social work practice and meet the expectations and knowledge requirements of Key Capabilities in Child Care and protection (Scottish Executive, 2006).

The Stage 2 period of supervised practice learning will generate practice experiences which will allow the student to complete the following modules: SS2030 Practice Learning 1/Contexts, SS3038 Practice Learning 1/Competence in Practice and SS2032 Personal and Professional Development 1.
