Aims of Module
To provide an analysis of the relationship between environment and society at different scales - from individual and community, to regional and national, and through to international and intergenerational. To explore different responses to contemporary environmental issues at each of these scales.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Critically analyse a range of conceptualisations of the relationship between humans and the environment
2 Develop a critical understanding of different responses to environmental change
3 Critically analyse contemporary environmental issues with reference to social science theories and concepts

Indicative Module Content
Environmental ethics/values; cognitive and cultural models of environmental risk; environmental responsibility; ecological citizenship; environmental justice and environmental racism; sustainable development; science-policy interface; environmental governance; international and intergenerational environmental problems; structural inequalities and the environment

Module Delivery
This is a mainly lecture based module with supporting seminars/workshops and student-centred learning. The on-campus activities will be supplemented and supported with online activities where appropriate.
