Aims of Module
To provide the student with the ability to understand and apply a range of knowledge and skills in communication, assessment and intervention relevant for social work practice.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Apply a range of approaches to assessment within social work practice.
2 Apply social work intervention within the context of evidence based practice.
3 Discuss the professional values base that underpins social work practice and the nature of ethical practice in a diverse society.

Indicative Module Content
Methods of assessment and risk assessment. Methods of social work intervention including: direct work with children, life space skills, task centred case work, care management, psycho-social case work. Cognitive behavioural social work, and models of family therapy. Evidence based practice. Reflective practitioner skills. The content reflects the knowledge, skills and professional confidence and competence requirements relating to engagement with public protection
