Aims of Module
To provide the student with the ability to evaluate community care legislation and models of service delivery.
Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

Critically evaluate social policy and legislation relevant to community care provision.

Evaluate the practice of care management from the perspectives of service users, purchasers and providers within one context of health or disability need.

Evaluate the concepts of advocacy, partnership and enpowerment in relation to ethical practice.

Demonstrate an understanding of financial management and planning.

Indicative Module Content
The historical context of community care. Legislative framework. Health care and social care - roles, responsibilities and joint working. Models of care management. Needs-led assessment. Care and goal planning. Mixed economy of care. Purchaser/Provider split. User participation - advocacy, empowerment and partnership. Performance Review and Quality.
