Aims of Module
To provide the student with the ability to practise ethically and professionally within group care settings. To enable students to consider the range of practice issues and ethical dilemmas involved in the support and protection of people with a disability or mental health issue across a range of practice settings.
Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

Analyse the process of residential settings as they impinge on residents, staff and carers.

Apply a range of appropriate interventions within group care settings.

Understand budgeting/resource management techniques.

4. |
With regard to people with disability or mental health issues, understand the range of practice issues and ethical dilemmas involved in support and protection across a range of practice settings.

Indicative Module Content
Residential establishments as organisations and institutions,life space and opportunity led approaches. Management of challenging, aggressive and violent behaviour. The management of issues related to touch, sexuality and power within group care settings. Exploration of personal identity in sociological and psychological terms. Exploration of practice issues and ethical dilemmas in working with people with a disability or mental health issue. A focus on working with risk and uncertainty, issues around care and control, empowerment and personalisation.
