Aims of Module
To enable students to apply research techniques to project management and research proposal writing and to analyse the relationship between research and social work practice.
Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

Manage a team based project.

Develop a dissertation proposal and demonstrate its application to social work.

Indicative Module Content
Review of research methods. Application of research to social work practice. Evaluating practice. Applying statistics and data analysis – quantitative and qualitative. Advanced literature searching. Planning research. Research proposal writing. Project management skills. The content also reflects the knowledge requirements of the Key Capabilities in Child Care and Protection (Scottish Executive, 2006)

| Mode of Delivery
The module is based on core lectures and supporting seminar and discussion work. It also requires students to undertake critical reading of relevant journals.
