Aims of Module

To enable the students to demonstrate the ability to apply the relevant theory to practice and reflect critically on their practice with regard to values, knowledge, assessment and intervention.

Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Explain the purpose of the placement agency within a specific social policy context and evaluate its effectiveness.
2. Provide and informed assessment of a service user drawing on relevant social science and social work teaching.
3. Explain and demonstrate an application of a social work method of intervention including a justification of the choice of approach, reflection on use of self, and an evaluation of effectiveness in the context of evidence based practice.
4. Critically reflect on potential and actual strategies for addressing structural oppression and unfair discrimination encountered during the placement.
5. Identify legislation relevant to the placement setting and demonstrate selective application to practice.

Indicative Module Content

Social work placement experiences which will allow the student the opportunity to reflect, apply and integrate a range of values and theories to social work practice.

Additional Notes

The student will be working full time during the placement period. Honours Degree students will work for approximately 360 hours and Degree students for approximately 480 hours. The length of placement is prescribed by CCETSW.
