Aims of Module | |||

This module aims to critically examine historical and contemporary debates around genders and sexualities. Situated within a historical framework of the emergence and development of discourses and practices of feminism, the module explores key concepts and theories central to the field of gender studies, such as equality, patriarchy, intersectionality and power. It particularly examines contemporary debates around gender identity, masculinities and postcolonial and non-Western critiques. |

History of gender movements; 1st wave of feminism and equality; 2nd wave of feminism and patriarchy; 3rd wave of feminism and intersectionality; 4th wave of feminism and body image; Decolonising gender studies; Cultural concepts of masculinity; Concepts of gender identity and sexuality; The Violence of gender. |
