Aims of Module
To provide the student with the ability to apply theories relating to the development of personality and behaviour throughout the human lifespan.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Apply a range of theories demonstrating knowledge and understanding of human development.
2 Explain how these theories might inform an understanding of the needs of service users.

Indicative Module Content
Theories of development - Physical, Life Cycle, Object Relations, Attachment, Loss and Transition, Mourning and Bereavement, Relationships, Adult Partnerships, Families, Systems and Resilience. The module addresses a range of specific theories that apply to children adults and families. The module is delivered and underpinned by a commitment to core social work values of respect, individualisation, empowerment, anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive principles and upholds the values and ethical practice standards that reflect the requirements relating to engagement with public protection.

Module Delivery
Distance Learning This module is based on directed and private study supplemented by lectures, seminars and tutorials. Introductory lectures are linked to work materials. Directed and private study is supported by tutorials. Full Time Core concepts will be delivered by lecture. Seminars will be used for discussion and application. Students are also required to undertake formative case studies and reading of relevant material.
