Aims of Module

To enable the student to understand, apply and evaluate a range of key concepts underpinning evidence based and reflective social work practice.

Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Explain the values underpinning social work practice and the nature of ethical practice in a diverse society.
2. Explain and apply a range of approaches to assessment of need or risk within social work practice.
3. Apply a range of social work models of intervention to social work practice.
4. Use and relate evidence based research which supports or challenges theoretical material.

Social work values and ethical dilemmas.
Communication.
Methods of assessment and risk assessment.
Methods of social work intervention.
Overview of qualitative and quantitative research methods.
Evidence based practice.
Reflective practice.
Anti-discriminatory practice.
