Aims of Module | |||

To introduce students to the history of psychology and conceptual issues in psychology, and using them to understand the development and nature of contemporary psychological science and practice. |
Learning Outcomes for Module | |

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: | |
1 | Demonstrate an understanding of the scope and defining features of major influences, events, figures and movements in the history of psychology. |
2 | Apply their knowledge and relevant presentation skills to convey their understanding in conceptual issues surrounding the history of psychology and implications thereof. |
Indicative Module Content |
---|
Is Psychology a science? The evolution of Psychological thinking. Debates such as free will, reductionism, nature-nurture, gender, culture, etc.. Controversies and debates. How ethical issues have shaped research. |
Module Delivery |

This is a mainly lecture based module with supporting seminars/workshops and student-centred learning. The on-campus activities will be supplemented and supported with online activities where appropriate. |
