Aims of Module

To provide the student with the ability to apply theories relating to the development of personality and behaviour.

Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Explain a range of theories in relation to the development of personality and behaviour within a cultural context.
2. Apply developmental theories to working with children.
3. Apply the concepts of loss and change to social work practice.
4. Apply concepts related to adult partnerships and family life to social work practice.

Indicative Module Content

Theories of development - physical, psycho-social, humanistic, cognitive, learning theory, neuro-biological. Attachment theory. Resilience. Loss and change. Interpersonal behaviour. Families. Multi-cultural contexts. Key Capabilities in Child Care and Child Protection.
