Aims of Module
To provide the student with the opportunity to gain practical experience of research design, methodology, analysis and writing in psychology and sociology.

Learning Outcomes for Module
On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:
1 Evaluate a relevant quantitative social science research method to explore an appropriate social science issue.
2 Evaluate a relevant qualitative social science research method to explore an appropriate social science issue.

Indicative Module Content
Review of research methodologies and analysis. Practical experience at engaging in experimental research. Practical experience at engaging in non experimental research. Qualitative methodologies and analysis. Consideration of British Psychological Society Ethical Code of Practice for Research and the British Sociological Association/ESRC Code of Ethics. Academic writing skills. Positionality of research and researcher.

Module Delivery
This is a mainly lecture based module with supporting seminars/workshops and student-centred learning. The on-campus activities will be supplemented and supported with online activities where appropriate.
