Aims of Module

To provide the student with the ability to apply theories relating to the development of personality and behaviour, throughout the human lifespan.

Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Understand and apply a range of theories in relation to the development of personality and behaviour.
2. Evaluate and apply developmental theories to social work practice.
3. Apply the concepts of loss and change to social work practice.
4. Apply concepts related to adult partnerships and family life to social work practice.
5. Undertake a case study informed by psychological and sociological concepts.

Indicative Module Content

Theories of development - physical, psycho-social, humanistic, cognitive, learning theory. Attachment theory. Loss and change. Interpersonal behaviour. Cultures and Contexts.
