Aims of Module

The aim of the first practice placement is to enable the student to meet the criteria required for achievement of INTERMEDIATE ASSESSMENT (CCETSW Diploma in Social Work, 1995).

Learning Outcomes for Module

On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Demonstrate the values, knowledge, skills and competence required to meet the CCETSW Requirements of INTERMEDIATE ASSESSMENT. (CCETSW, Diploma in Social Work, 1995).
2. Demonstrate an appropriate application of relevant knowledge gained from undertaking modules at Level 1 or equivalent for Distance Learning students.

Indicative Module Content

Opportunities arising from practice to meet requirements detailed in the working agreement. The Practice Teacher will ensure that the student is provided with the necessary learning opportunities to allow her/him to demonstrate an appropriate level of competence with regard to the necessary values, knowledge and skills.

Social Work Practice is assessed by the agency based Practice Teacher using a range of methods including observed practice, student feedback and student learning log. At the end of the practice experience the student is required to write a report which demonstrates an appropriate competence in practice with regard to values, knowledge and skills. In particular, the student must demonstrate an appropriate application of relevant knowledge gained from undertaking modules at level 1 or equivalent for Distance Learning students. In addition, the Practice Teacher writes a report evaluating the student's practice.

With regard to the Indicative Student Workload, students undertake 60 days of agency based assessed practice experience.
