On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to:

1. Identify key elements of urban sociology.
2. Discuss a classical and contemporary urban theory.
3. Identify and explain the implications of the urban experience.
4. Discuss aspects of urban social policy.

Indicative Module Content

The rise of the urban. Simmel and the urban experience, Chicago School. Metromarxism. Castells and New Social Movements. Citizenship. Homelessness. Cities and emotions. Creativity and urban economies.
